In a bid to strengthen safety for women commuters, the Telangana Police Women Safety Wing has launched a coordinated initiative with TGSRTC, Metro Rail, Transport Department, Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), private bus operators and auto drivers’ associations across the tri-commissionerates of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda.

The move, part of the larger Safe Mobility Initiative, is aimed at providing swift redressal to incidents of harassment on public and private transport.

Dial 100 or 112

Under the initiative, women who face groping, flashing or other forms of sexual harassment, can immediately alert bus conductors, auto drivers or directly call Dial 100 or 112.

First responders, including conductors and drivers, will escalate complaints to emergency services, triggering the dispatch of police patrols and intervention by She Teams. In the case of Metro, women passengers may use the alert system or directly contact emergency services.

Each participating agency will appoint a nodal officer to coordinate with the organisations and the Women Safety Wing will monitor investigations and outcomes.

The new framework seeks to end the anonymity offenders have long relied on in crowded public spaces. Officials said women often felt helpless or saw harassment as unavoidable because reporting against unknown offenders seemed futile. Now, rapid intervention is expected to deter such behaviour and ensure accountability.

TGSRTC conductors will be trained to act as first points of contact, while patrolling units will ensure swift field response and hand over offenders to She Teams for further action. The initiative is fully integrated with the Dial 100/112 emergency response system to guarantee real-time coordination.

The Women Safety Wing emphasised that the effort goes beyond enforcement. By making reporting simpler and strengthening response mechanisms, the programme aims to change societal attitudes that have normalised eve-teasing and harassment.
