The Telangana State Waqf Board (TGWB) and mutawallis across the State are racing against time to meet the March 12 deadline for uploading documents related to waqf properties on the UMEED portal. But with the sheer number of properties, officials say it is an uphill task.

Officials told The Hindu that the thousands of properties must be uploaded and subsequently verified before the deadline.

According to officials, the pressing concen stems from the fact that the erstwhile composite Medak district accounts for a particularly large number of waqf properties. The district alone, they said, has around 28,000 properties. Hyderabad also has a significant number of such properties that require documentation and verification.

Officials pointed out that the process of verification presents an additional challenge. The designated checker and approver must be a government employee and cannot be an outsider. As a result, inspectors and assistant secretaries are responsible for providing the final clearance for the uploaded properties.

Despite the pressure of the deadline, board officials expressed confidence that the work would be completed in time, stating that teams would work round the clock until March 12 to ensure that the required documents are uploaded and approved.

Speaking to The Hindu, TGWB Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Asadullah said, “The number of waqf properties is large in number. We have been speaking with mutawallis and others to expedite the process. We will be able to finish the work on time.”

In a separate development, the TGWB and the Department of Heritage Telangana continue to be in a stalemate over the enumeration of protected sites, that are Muslim places of worship. While latter had sought a complete handover of these sites on grounds of the Section 3D of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025 from the TGWB, the board is seeking relevant documents such as an agreement between the Department of Heritage Telangana and mutawallis and ratification of this by the Telangana government.
