The Telangana Government has released ₹12.99 crore as immediate assistance to take up relief and rehabilitation of families affected by cyclone Montha — which resulted in extremely heavy rainfall in several districts of the State.

As many as 8,662 houses in 15 districts suffered damages and Revenue Special Chief Secretary, Arvind Kumar, has said ₹15,000 each would be provided to the owners for taking up repair works. Cyclone Montha took its toll on several districts including Warangal, Hanamkonda, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy, Rangareddy, Karimnagar, Sircilla, Mahbubnagar, Siddipet and Nagarkurnool with extremely heavy rainfall reported for four days from October 27 to 30.

The Government asked the district Collectors to send reports on damages on priority basis and based on the reports submitted, the amount was released. The amounts would be credited directly into the bank accounts of the affected families.

The Government had already announced ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh each (₹4 lakh from the SDRF and ₹1 lakh from the Government) to the next kin of the families of those who died under the impact of the heavy rains. This apart, ₹50,000 each as compensation was announced for milch animals that died due to the cyclone and ₹5,000 for small animals like goat and sheep.

The district Collectors were directed to take up restoration of roads/tanks/culverts and other structures including the PHC buildings, schools and anganwadi centres following the SDRF norms.
