The State government has announced a 90% waiver on accumulated interest on property tax arrears within the limits of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) under a one-time settlement scheme for the financial year 2025-26.

According to a Government Order issued by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, the waiver will be applicable to both private and government properties located within GHMC limits. The concession will be available to property owners who clear the principal amount of the outstanding property tax along with 10% of the accumulated interest in one go.

According to the order, the decision was taken after examining a proposal submitted by the GHMC Commissioner, seeking relief for taxpayers with long-pending dues. The government has allowed the interest waiver as part of the ‘One Time Scheme’ to encourage the clearance of arrears and improve municipal revenue collections.

The scheme covers accumulated arrears interest on property tax up to the financial year 2025-26. Once the eligible taxpayer pays the principal tax amount along with 10% of the interest, the remaining 90% of the interest component will be waived.

The government has directed the GHMC Commissioner to take necessary action for the implementation of the scheme and ensure its smooth execution.
