Telangana has set an ambitious target of attracting ₹1 lakh crore in new investments in the life sciences sector by 2030, IT and Industries D. Sridhar Babu said at the AusBiotech International Conference 2025 in Melbourne, Australia.
Delivering a keynote address at the conference on Thursday (October 23, 2025), he said the investments are expected to generate employment for five lakh people.
Next phase of growth
Outlining the State Government’s strategy for bio-digital led growth, he said a comprehensive Life Sciences Policy to accelerate innovation, infrastructure and global partnerships is in the works. The Government has also drawn up a comprehensive ‘Roadmap 2030’ to position Telangana as a global life sciences hub.
AI-based drug discovery, genomics, green biomanufacturing, agri-biotech and animal health are focus areas of Telangana and offer potential for collaboration and value creation. Inviting Australian firms to explore investment opportunities in the State, particularly in emerging and high-growth areas — including cell and gene therapy, biologics and biosimilars as well as contract research, development and manufacturing — the Minister said the State attracted ₹3.2 lakh crore in new investments over the past 20 months. Of these, ₹63,000 crore were in the Life Sciences sector.
Victoria–Telangana Innovation Corridor
Telangana is also aiming to increase the value of the Life Sciences economy from $80 billion to $250 billion by this decade, he said, assuring Telangana Government’s support to the investors. He also mooted a Victoria–Telangana Innovation Corridor, the Minister’s office said in a release on his speech.
Innovation ecosysatem
The strength of the State lies in its innovation ecosystem. “Our slogan is not merely ‘Make in India’, but ‘Invent in Telangana’,” he said. The State is also investing heavily in building a ready-to-deploy bio-digital workforce to meet the needs of emerging technologies in biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and healthcare. The Life Sciences University and the Young India Skills University initiatives of the State Government are measures in this direction, he said.
Hyderabad has emerged a preferred destination for life science firms. It is the only Indian city to feature in realty consultancy CBRE’s Global Life Sciences Atlas 2025 alongside Boston, San Francisco, Cambridge, Beijing and Tokyo. Life Sciences office leasing in the city expanded from 0.6 million sq. ft. in 2022 to 2.4 million sq. ft. in 2024, reflecting the sector’s rapid growth and investor confidence, the Minister said.
