Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao was arrested by the police on Sunday (February 22, 2026) morning after preventing him from going to Kamareddy and shifted him to Bolarum police stations in Hyderabad.

Mr. Rao was kept under house arrest since Saturday (February 21) night to foil his attempts to go to Kamareddy and later Banswara, where clashes broke out between two groups. In Kamareddy, tension prevailed due to the challenges and counter-challenges between Kamareddy BJP MLA Venkaramana Reddy and Congress leaders over a parcel of land belonging to Sishu Mandhir.

Mr. Rao condemned the alleged attack by Congress leaders and workers on the camp office of BJP MLA Venkataramana Reddy, accusing the Congress government of unleashing a “reign of repression” through illegal arrests and house detentions.

He said the attack on the BJP MLA’s office, followed by what he termed as indiscriminate arrests and preventive house arrests of BJP leaders, had exposed the “authoritarian nature” of the Congress administration. He alleged that he was illegally placed under house arrest ahead of his proposed visit to Banswada and Kamareddy, where he intended to express solidarity with the party MLA.

Mr. Rao alleged that Congress leaders, unable to substantiate what he described as baseless allegations against the BJP MLA, resorted to violence instead of engaging in debate. Merely asking Congress leaders to prove their allegations led to orchestrated attacks, undermining the rule of law, justice and democracy, he argued.

Stating that BJP leaders and cadres were determined to visit Kamareddy and also Banswada, where there was a clash between two religious groups, he said despite all obstacles, party leaders will go.
