Roads and Building (R&B) Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy welcomed the recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee favouring Private Public Partnership (PPP) in the construction of medical colleges. He said that the recommendation was a slap on the face of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who have been opposing the State government’s decision to construct medical colleges under PPP model.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Mr. Janardhan Reddy said the committee had suggested PPP as the best alternative in the wake of increasing cost on medical education. “The Committee made it clear that there will be a possibility of increasing 250 undergraduate seats in each medical college under PPP model,” he said.

The Minister said Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy was making allegations against the PPP model for political gains and was giving call for agitations only to instigate the people. Calling the ‘One crore signature campaign’ of YSRCP against the PPP model as a drama, he said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had taken a decision to adopt PPP model to put an end to the delay in construction of medical colleges due to paucity of funds.

“The YSRCP is resorting to malicious propaganda without knowing the difference between PPP and privatisation,” he said, and added that medical colleges under PPP model would result in better medical care for the poor.
