The bandh called by major parties — seeking support for 42% reservation in local body elections and put pressure on the Telangana government and the central government — had a limited impact on the streets of Hyderabad on Saturday (October 18, 2025).

Normal life was not affected as restaurants, fuel stations, auto rickshaws functioned normally. “Only RTC buses are not plying. Schools have declared a holiday. Some shops and restaurants are open. It will remain like this,” said a police officer at the Election Commission mandated checkpoint near Sarathi Studios in Ameerpet.

The busy junction appeared partially deserted as school buses and autos transporting school children were off the road. The fuel stations were also functioning normally as well private buses bringing outstation commuters to the city. The Hyderabad Metro also appeared unaffected by the stir call.

“ Everything is functioning. We have less business because some of these offices are also shut,” said Shankar, an autqodriver standing near AAA Cinemas.
