Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, on Tuesday (August 4, 2026) alleged that the Bihar government was protecting the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MLA Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Sonu Singh in the murder case of Municipal Executive Officer (EO) Vimal Kumar, in which police have arrested Vimal’s driver Mithilesh Kumar.

The EO of Dalmianagar Municipal Council in Bihar’s Rohtas district was beaten to death on Saturday night (August 1, 2026) in Aurangabad district when he was on his way to his home in Patna. The officer’s wife, Babita Kumari, had alleged the hand of an LJP (RV) MLA in the murder.

Vimal’s wife has accused the MLA and said that the MLA used to call her husband every day and demand ₹25 lakh to ₹50 lakh.

The National Working President of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), while addressing the press at his official residence in Patna, said that Magadh Range Inspector General (I-G) Vikas Vaibhav has a good relationship with the MLA and they meet quite often.

Mr. Yadav, who has also met the deceased family members the day before yesterday, said, “The prime accused and murderer in this case is LJP (RV) Dehiri-On-Sone MLA Sonu Singh. The government and the police are making every possible attempt to protect him.”

He further said, “As far as investigation in the case is concerned, without the postmortem and forensic report, I saw a video in which IG Saheb is saying that the driver is the murderer. However, the family members are saying that along with the driver, many other people are involved, including MLA Sonu Singh. When family members showed me the photo of the dead body, it was hard to believe that one person could do it. It seemed that the murder was executed in a planned manner.”

Mr. Yadav added that the driver has changed his statement multiple times, and according to the police, the driver murdered EO because he was not getting leave and there was a lot of workload.

“This is really weird that, for the first time, IG Saheb of that range reached the spot and believed the statement of the driver and also issued the statement. What is funny in this case is that suppose the Chief Minister’s driver is not getting leave and there is too much workload, then he can kill the CM as well. This applies to my driver as well. Hard to digest this logic that the EO was killed by the driver due to overwork, “Mr. Yadav said.

Mr. Yadav asked why the police are not investigating the case from the angle that his wife and family members said the MLA was demanding extortion money of ₹25 lakh to ₹50 lakh. He added that the police have not registered a named FIR against the MLA.

“The most interesting that IG Saheb has a good relationship with Sonu Singh. IG has created his own forum (Let’s Inspire Bihar), and he also holds meetings outside Bihar. In many programmes, Sonu Singh is seen with IG. Many even claim that Sonu Singh funds his programmes. It is a matter of investigation,”Mr. Yadav said, adding that IG is also a relative of one of the Bihar Deputy Chief Ministers.

He demanded fair investigation into the case and also a government job to Vimal’s wife.

Arti Kumari, wife of the arrested driver, claimed that her husband has been wrongfully arrested in the case and police have tortured and pressured him to give the statement.

“I am his wife, and I know him very well; he cannot do such a thing. When I went to meet him in jail, he told me that he had done nothing and the police beat him badly to make him accept the murder,”Ms. Arti said.

Attempts to contact Mr. Vaibhav turned futile.
