Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and INDIA bloc chief ministerial face Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday (October 25, 2025) accused the Nitish Kumar government of creating a system for the home delivery of liquor despite Bihar being a ‘dry state. He also said that total prohibition of liquor in the state is only for namesake.

“Home delivery of liquor is no secret in Bihar. However, only the rich people are enjoying the drinks whereas poor people are being sent to jail. No wonder, it is the police and [State] administration helping in the distribution and sale of liquor in Bihar,” Mr. Yadav said while addressing an election rally in Shahpur town of Bhojpur district while campaigning for RJD candidate Rahul Tiwari.

He further claimed that male police officers conduct raids without women constables in the houses of the poor when women are present at home with the family members.

“The police arrest the male members of the family on the charges of selling and distributing liquor. They beat them and put them behind bars. However, they do not even touch the big people like government officers and Ministers who are mainly involved in the liquor business,” Mr. Yadav alleged.

The former Deputy Chief Minister said, “More than 14 lakh people have been sent to jail and most of them are people belonging to Dalit, Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class (EBC) communities.”

“Have you ever seen a government where rats drink thousands of litres of liquor kept at police stations. This government is really crazy and we need to change it,” he remarked at the rally.

Earlier in the day while addressing another rally in Khagaria district, Mr. Yadav said that not a single word uttered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was meaningful when the latter visited Bihar on Friday.

Mr. Yadav said the Prime Minister’s speech had no positive or productive point for the State. The RJD alleged that Mr. Modi comes to Bihar only to defame the State and present a negative image of it to the world.

The former Deputy Chief Minister asserted that Mr. Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have taken several major projects to Gujarat — GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City), bullet train, semiconductor factory, Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and the world’s biggest cricket stadium.

“They will take Bihar’s entire share of the education, health, sports, and infrastructure budget to Gujarat. For 20 years, there has been a double-engine government. Modi ji should explain what they have given to Bihar and what they have given to Gujarat in these 20 years. Present the comparative data between the two States,” Mr. Yadav said.

“Bihar is larger than Gujarat in every aspect. Bihar’s population is so large that every tenth Indian is a Bihari, yet these two Gujaratis will give nothing to Bihar,” he added.

He alleged that when they come to Bihar, they will steal votes and never discuss jobs, employment, development, or industry.

Mr. Yadav also said that when Mr. Shah claims that factories are not being built in Bihar because there is no land, the people of Bihar are asking why he comes to Bihar to ask for votes when the factory will eventually be built in Gujarat.

“We must all be vigilant against the BJP’s attempts to foster an atmosphere of hatred and stand united with the Mahagatbandhan to strengthen the nation’s unity and integrity,” the RJD leader said.

He asserted that to remove the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) from power in Bihar and to protect democracy and the Constitution, everyone must work in a united manner.
