A 17-year-old boy was electrocuted on Friday (August 14, 2026) while he was fixing the National Flag for the Independence Day celebrations at a private school in Madhya Pradesh.

According to the police, the incident took place on Friday afternoon (August 14, 2026) at Little Star Public School in Datia town. The student, Raj Kushwaha, was called by school officials after school hours and sent to the rooftop to install the National Flag on a pole for the Independence Day celebrations.

Datia Superintendent of Police Mayur Khandelwal told The Hindu that an FIR has been registered against the school officials under relevant provisions, including Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Mr. Khandelwal said that the boy suffered burns after coming into contact with an 11 KV power line passing over the school roof. He died on the spot.

“We have initiated a probe into the matter and are questioning people at the school,” he said.

Family members of Mr. Kushwaha staged a demonstration, alleging that the school management failed to inform them of the incident immediately. The protest caused a traffic jam on NH-44. Cabinet Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha, whose convoy was caught in the jam, spoke to the victim’s family and assured them of police action.

In another incident, two school students died on Saturday (August 15, 2026) in Rewa district after drowning in a water-filled pit next to a government school ground while returning from an Independence Day programme.
