The State government has formed a team of four IPS officers, led by R. Hitendra, Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order), to conduct a preliminary inquiry in the case pertaining to videos purportedly showing the now suspended Director-General of Police K. Ramachandra Rao misbehaving with multiple women in his office.

The government was mulling over handing over the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). However, a committee has now been formed to hold a preliminary inquiry. Based on this report, the next course of action will be decided. With the women in the video not coming forward to lodge any complaints, there is no scope for a criminal investigation and only an inquiry can be held, sources said.

The inquiry committee will have Chetan Singh Rathore, Inspector-General of Police (Northern Range), Kala Krishnaswamy, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Crimes), and C.B. Ryshyanth, Superintendent of Police (Wireless), as members.

The videos in question are said to be recorded eight years ago when Mr. Rao was IGP (Northern Range). The inquiry committee will now verify the veracity of the videos and other allegations, sources said.

Mr. Rao has claimed the videos are doctored using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.
