An expert team of the Chennai-based Highways Research Station (HRS) of the State Highways Department assessed the quality of ongoing widening work of Arcot-Tindivanam Road (SH-05), a distance of 96 km, near Arcot town in Ranipet on Wednesday.
Officials of State Highways said that the surprise checks by the expert team, led by M. Saravanan, Director, Highways Research Station, helps to understand the quality of ongoing works, especially during northeast monsoon.
He was accompanied byS.S. Saravanan, Divisional Engineer (Quality Control), State Highways (Tiruvannamalai) and S. Selvakumar, Divisional Engineer, Construction and Maintenance, State Highways (Ranipet).
“Field level engineers can fine tune on the ongoing road works based on inputs given by the expert team. Around 80% of widening of the stretch (Arcot-Tindivanam Road) is completed,” S.S. Nitin, Assistant Engineer (AE), State Highways (Arcot), told The Hindu.
The team assessed quality of raw materials used for the work, total length and width of the stretches that are undertaken for work, thickness of bitumen layer and quantity of blue metal.
