The Kochi City police have registered 49 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act during a special combing operation conducted in various parts of the city on Saturday (November 15, 2025) night. The cases were registered on charges of alleged use and possession of suspected narcotic substances, the police said on Sunday (November 16, 2025). Last week, 30 such cases were registered during a similar weekend drive.

The police also booked 49 people for alleged drunk driving during the operation. A total of 22 cases were registered under the Abkari Act on charges including the illegal storage and transport of liquor. The number of drunk driving cases has come down considerably, compared to the 140 booked last Saturday.

“Action has been taken against 231 offenders as part of the drive. The operation will continue in the coming days,” District Police Chief (Kochi City) Putta Vimaladitya said in a release on Sunday.

Medical camp

The Ernakulam Rural police on Sunday organised a medical camp and awareness programme for migrant labourers in Angamaly as part of ‘Operation Punarjani’, an anti-drug drive. Nearly 500 migrant labourers attended the event, which was inaugurated by District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) M. Hemalatha.
