Reaffirming confidence in the ‘Dravidian model of governance’ in attracting investments, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, on Monday (February 9, 2026), said the State took pride in its expansion of world-class automotive manufacturing.

After inaugurating a ₹9,000-crore Tata Motors-Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) passenger car manufacturing plant at Panapakkam village in Ranipet on Monday (February 9, 2026), Mr. Stalin said that Tata Group has long played a pivotal role in nation-building and that it shares a deep, historic partnership with Tamil Nadu. The commencement of operations at the new car manufacturing facility has heralded the State’s expansion of world-class automotive manufacturing, he said. Mr. Stalin also rolled out the first Range Rover Evoque at the inauguration.

In a special address, N. Chandrasekaran, chairman, Tata Sons & Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., said that the inauguration of the new facility marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey to accelerate India’s leadership in sustainable and future-ready manufacturing. “We deepen our long-standing partnership with Tamil Nadu, a State that continues to drive industrial excellence, innovation, and inclusive growth,” he said.

The new facility brings together advanced manufacturing technologies and a skilled workforce to deliver world-class vehicles. With operations now under way, vehicle production will scale up in a phased manner, progressively reaching the facility’s full designed annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles over the next five to seven years, serving requirements for both Indian and international markets.

The new plant has the potential to create over 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities while fostering skill enhancement and supporting the growth of a strong ancillary ecosystem.
