Tamil Nadu Youth Congress organised an ‘explainer’ event in Chennai, on Wednesday, to further expound on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent press conference on ‘Vote Chori’, alleging that the Election Commission of India had murdered democracy.
Speaking at the event, Arun Bhasker, senior vice-president, Tamil Nadu Youth Congress, took everyone through a demonstration of how deletion forms were filled up fraudulently.
“What should Election Commission of India have asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after he made those allegations? They should have asked, ‘Can you prove that there were fake logins?’ But they didn’t ask that. Rahul Gandhi alleged that a software is being used to fill up these forms in seconds. ECI should have said that their cyber security systems are foolproof and prove that such a system can be used to fill up the forms. But they didn’t because they are scared if he would show that as well,” said Mr. Arun.
Mr. Arun said that the ECI website has a ‘big hole’ which allows anyone to change the phone number linked to a voter identity card of a person without their knowledge through a so-called Form 8.
“As of September 22, there was no need for Aadhar-linked OTP to change numbers on ECI website. They have changed ‘E-sign and Submit’ on ‘Form 8’ without even a formal press release, fearing the Vote-Chori campaign as on September 22,” he said.
