The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday announced a Pongal gift hamper, comprising one kg of rice, one kg of sugar, and a sugar cane, for rice card-holders and Sri Lankan Tamil families residing in rehabilitation camps.
A government order to this effect has been issued by the Department of Cooperation, Food, and Consumer Protection. The decision will benefit over 2.22 crore rice card-holders and Sri Lankan Tamil families. The government would incur an expenditure of ₹248.66 crore.
