DMDK general secretary and Vriddhachalam Assembly constituency candidate Premallatha Vijayakant filed her nomination papers on Monday (April 6, 2026) with Returning Officer Vishnupriya.

Speaking to reporters, Ms. Premallatha said that this time, the DMDK will definitely win in Vriddhachalam, just as Captain (Vijayakant) did when he won here for the first time. “Vriddhachalam is etched in our blood, breath, and hearts. This time, I will surely win and complete all the works Captain left behind for the development of the constituency,” she said.

She added that the creation of a new district with Vriddhachalam as its headquarters would be one of the top demands, and that the party would take up the issue with the Chief Minister after the elections.

“The people here are with us — there’s no village, or panchayat, Captain and I haven’t visited. After 20 years, history is repeating. Just as Captain transformed this constituency in 2006, we’ll work hard this time to make Vriddhachalam the best,” she said

Ms. Premallatha said the public response to her election campaign was overwhelming and the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) will secure a massive victory. “For years, we’ve wanted a DMK alliance; it should have happened when Kalaignar (former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi) and Captain were around, but it’s happening now, though delayed.”
