Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Sunday (April 5, 2026) said that there was no room for ‘politics of hate’ in Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry and exuded confidence that the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) would secure a massive victory in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference in Puducherry, Mr. Thirumavalavan said the DMK government had implemented a number of welfare-centric schemes during the last five years, and the people wanted the government to continue. “No matter how many promises the BJP offers, the people will teach them a lesson, and the SPA will secure victory in both Tamil Nadu and Puducherry,” he said.

Though the Left parties in Puducherry were not allotted seats to contest the election, it would not affect the prospects of the alliance. The alliance was intact and the Left parties had extended their support.

The VCK had announced candidates for Oulgaret, Oussudu (SC), Nettapakkam (SC) and Yanam in the U.T. due to delay in seat-sharing talks. However, following negotiations by senior Congress leaders, the Oulgaret seat was confirmed to the VCK. “We have decided to campaign for the candidates of the alliance in the other three constituencies,” he said.

He said the participation of Tamil Nadu Governor (in-charge) Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at an event organised by the RSS-BJP in Tamil Nadu was in violation of the Model Code of Conduct. “We have sent a complaint to the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer and the Chief Election Commissioner of India demanding the Governor be replaced,” he said.
