The ruling DMK and CPI on Wednesday (March 18, 2026) finalised their seat-sharing agreement for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with the latter being allotted five seats. The agreement was signed by DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and CPI State secretary M. Veerapandian at Anna Arivalayam, the DMK headquarters, in Chennai.

Mr. Veerapandian said the DMK front was an alliance shaped by principles.

Seat-sharing arrangement with another Left party in the alliance, the CPI(M), has not yet been finalised. The party is demanding more seats than it contested in the 2021 Assembly elections. Both the CPI and the CPI(M) contested in six seats each in 2021 as part of the DMK-led front.
