Housing the centuries-old Sri Subramaniyaswamy temple situated atop the hillock at Viralimalai and the famous Jain heritage site at Sittanavasal is the Viralimalai Assembly constituency in Pudukottai district. The two prominent spots are the centre of attraction for devotees, tourists and heritage lovers throughout the year in this constituency where farming and a few major industries co-exist.

Like any other assembly segment in Pudukottai district, Viralimalai too is a rain-fed area with agriculture being the mainstay. Notwithstanding the presence of numerous water bodies in the form of tanks and ponds, many of them are dry and have been encroached upon, complain farmers.
