Both kidneys and corneas of a 51-year-old woman and a native of Tamil Nadu, who was declared brain-dead at a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, were donated to four patients awaiting new organs in Kerala.

L.P. Rajeshwari, a resident of Gopichettipalayam, Erode in Tamil Nadu, had been hospitalised following severe headache and high blood pressure in private hospitals at Valloyoor and Nagercoil since January 17. She had suffered cerebral haemorrhage

As her condition worsened, she was moved to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on January 18 night. However, despite expert care, brain death was confirmed on January 22, following which the family willingly came forward to donate her organs.

All organ donation and transplant procedures were coordinated by K-SOTTO.
