Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday (December 7, 2025) underscored the Tamil Nadu Government’s commitment to uniform and regionally balanced development, announcing that the State has attracted ₹11.38 lakh crore in committed investments over the past four years, creating 34 lakh jobs.

Speaking at the T.N. Rising Summit in Madurai, he said the conclave had resulted in the signing of 91 MoUs entailing a cumulative investment of ₹36,660 crore, marking a major step in the government’s plan to accelerate industrial growth in the southern districts.

Highlighting the focus on balanced development, Mr. Stalin said, “Our effort to transform the Madurai region into an industrial hub through the creation of 56,766 new jobs is part of our promise of ensuring uniform development across the State-dispersed development in every district.”

He noted that attracting investment required more than political appeal from the Chief Minister. “Investors examine policies, human resource skills, infrastructure, law and order, administrative efficiency, and long-term stability before choosing a location. I take pride in Tamil Nadu becoming their first choice,” he said.

Mr. Stalin said his government has taken several initiatives to bring the southern region on par with other regions in terms of industrial progress. Among the major projects, he highlighted the PM MITRA Integrated Textile Park coming up in Virudhunagar district, developed jointly with the Union Government at a cost of ₹1,894 crore over 1,052 acres. Once functional, the park is expected to generate nearly one lakh jobs and modernise the State’s textile sector.

He also listed a series of ongoing and upcoming initiatives in the region: a common engineering park and a mega food park in Theni district; allotment of land for industrial parks in Sivaganga — 108 acres in Iluppaikudi and 102 acres in Kazhanivasal; and a ₹314-crore TIDEL Park in Madurai, and TIDEL NEO parks in Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, and Kanniyakumari. Besides, an airport has been proposed in Ramanathapuram.

He added that earlier investors’ conferences in Thoothukudi, Hosur, and Coimbatore had collectively secured nearly ₹1 lakh crore in assured investments, while the Madurai conference alone had attracted 186 projects across sectors including shipbuilding, electronics, food processing, and non-leather footwear.

Among the projects highlighted was the Taiwanese company Pei Hai, which is setting up a non-leather footwear manufacturing unit in the upcoming SIPCOT Industrial Park in Madurai, generating 15,000 jobs, with priority for local women workers.

He also noted that the MoU signed with Hyundai for a shipbuilding project in Thoothukudi has placed Tamil Nadu at the forefront of the sector.

In the education sector, Mr. Stalin announced the establishment of the Tamil Nadu University Research Park Foundation to strengthen industry–academia collaboration. In the Madurai region, a University Research Park is being developed in partnership with Madurai Kamaraj University and other institutions, with ₹13 crore as initial funding and ₹2.25 crore allocated for applied research grants.

During the summit, the Chief Minister also released the Madurai Master Plan 2044, prepared by the Directorate of Town and Country Planning for a projected population of 42 lakh.

Ministers Thangam Thenarasu (Finance), T.RB. Rajaa (Industries), K.N. Nehru (Municipal Administration), E.V. Velu (Public Works), K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran (Revenue and Disaster Management), K.R. Periakaruppan (Cooperation), R.S. Rajakannappan (Forests), P. Moorthy (Commercial Taxes and Registration), Palanivel Thiaga Rajan (Information Technology and Digital Services), Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan, among others, participated.
