Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai on Monday said the party candidates for the Assembly election would be announced in a day or two, after the AICC central election committee meets.

“If the committee meets soon, the candidates will be announced by tomorrow or day after,” he said. Mr. Selvaperunthagai said the CPI (M) would field its candidate in Padmanabhapuram, ruling out possibility of swapping the seat within the DMK-led alliance. Mr. Selvaperunthagai told journalists the manifesto released by DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was a “historical manifesto” and had attracted people from all walks of life.

“It is a manifesto that has appealed to low-income group and middle classes. The election results would mirror 1996 election results [when the DMK alliance secured a landslide victory],” he said.
