A total of 312 motorists were caught driving under the influence of alcohol during surprise checks conducted by Hyderabad Traffic Police across 23 key locations on the night of October 4.

The enforcement drive was part of a focused effort to curb the rising number of road accidents linked to intoxicated driving, particularly during the day.

Police officials said recent data show an increase in cases involving drivers consuming alcohol even during daylight hours, challenging the perception that drunk driving is mainly a night-time problem.

Officials said the Hyderabad Traffic Police have intensified enforcement both during the day and night to deter habitual offenders and improve overall road safety.

The department reiterated that drunk driving is a serious and punishable offence that endangers not only the offender but also other road users.
