The Supreme Court on Friday asked Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator S. Seeman to apologise to an actor who has accused him of committing ‘rape’ after falsely promising to marry her.

“You apologise to the woman, do not trouble her in future, withdraw all allegation. You will apologise. After considering your affidavit, we may quash the complaint. How you are going to assist the court is left to you,” Justice B.V. Nagarathna, heading a Division Bench also comprising Justice R. Mahadevan, orally addressed Mr. Seeman’s side.

Turning to the actor’s lawyers, senior advocate Shadan Farasat and advocate Jatin Bhardwaj, Justice Nagarathna asked why she wanted to pursue the complaint. Mr. Farasat said he would wait for Mr. Seeman to file the affidavit before consulting with his client. The senior advocate further apprised the court that there was a constant threat to his client, which had compelled her to leave Tamil Nadu and settle in Bengaluru. The court extended the interim stay on the investigation against Mr. Seeman till the next date of hearing.

“We have extended only till the next date of hearing. If you do not do all of what we have told you, we will dismiss your petition,” Justice Nagarathna told Mr. Seeman’s side.

On March 3, the apex court had issued an interim stay on the investigation against Mr. Seeman in the case. He had approached the top court after the Madras High Court had refused to quash the case.

The Supreme Court had at the time issued notice in the special leave petition filed by Mr. Seeman in order to explore the possibility of a settlement between the two parties.
