Around ten houses were damaged and several trees were uprooted in summer showers accompanied by strong winds that lashed the district on Tuesday (May 12, 2026) evening.

Four houses were partially damaged in Kothamangalam taluk, two each in Muvattupuzha and Kochi taluks, while two houses were also damaged in Thripunithura. Tree branches fell on a car parked on a ground near the Thripunithura metro station during the strong winds. A tree was uprooted in front of the EEC market in Muvattupuzha, disrupting traffic. Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services later cleared the tree and restored traffic.

Several cars parked inside an automobile company building were damaged after the structure’s roof collapsed in the strong winds. The authorities have also warned that strong summer showers are likely to continue in the coming days and urged the public to remain alert.
