The Mangaluru Central-Subrahmanya Road-Mangaluru Central Passenger that now runs with diesel locomotive will run with electric loco consequent to electrification of Mangaluru Junction-Subrahmanya Road from September 15, Southern Railway headquarters said in a notification on Wednesday (September 10, 2025) here.

Three round trips are made every day by the passenger train with Train Nos. 56625/26, 56627/28 and 56629/30 between Mangaluru Central and Subrahmanya Road (SBHR). The train earlier used to make only one trip to SBHR in the afternoon while the morning and evening trips were done till Kabaka Puttur. With the Railway Ministry extending the morning and evening services till SBHR on February 25, Minister of state for Railways V. Somanna had on April 12 flagged off the extended services.

Train 56625 leaves Mangaluru Central at 4 a.m. to reach SBHR at 6.30 a.m. while Train 56626 leaves SBHR at 7 a.m. to reach Central at 9.30 a.m. This return trip has become highly patronised by office-going passengers and students after the extension. Train No. 56629 leaves Central at 10 a.m. to reach SBHR at 1.30 p.m. while Train No. 56630 leaves SBHR at 1.45 p.m. to reach Central at 4.25 pm. Train No. 56627 leaves Central at 5.45 p.m to reach SBHR at 8.10 p.m. Train No. 56628 leaves SBHR at 8.40 p.m to reach Central at 11.10 p.m.

Southern Railway Locos

Though SBHR comes under Mysuru Division of South Western Railway, Southern Railway’s Palakkad Division has been providing the locos and rakes for the service because of operational convenience. Accordingly, the electric loco would be provided by SR, the notification said.

Confirming the change in traction, a senior official with Palakkad Division said there would be no change in the present timetable of the services. However, both the zones, SR and SWR, were exploring the possibility of deploying a mainline electrical multiple unit (MEMU) rake for the convenience of passengers and also reducng the travel time, he said. Even Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta has demanded replacement of the conventional rake with a MEMU.
