The Centre only returned the Tamil Nadu government’s Metro Rail project proposals for Coimbatore and Madurai and will approve it if the clarifications sought by it are submitted with all relevant information, BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran said.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Mr. Nagenthran said Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, his minsters, the DMK leaders and their electoral allies were raising the Coimbatore and Madurai metro train issue in a bid to overshadow Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handing over of assistance worth ₹18,000 crore to the farmers at a function held in Coimbatore.

The Union government had only returned the flawed proposal to the State government for submitting it again with more relevant information and clarifications sought by the Centre, he alleged. “If it is submitted with all relevant information, the project will be sanctioned before June next year,” Mr. Nagenthran said.

The BJP leader came down heavily on the Tamil Nadu government for what he called “failing to crush heinous crimes, narcotic substances and crimes against women”.

“Sex crimes against women have increased by 53%, while crimes against children has gone up by 14% under the DMK rule. Violence against women had risen by 60%. Even a Class XII girl student has been murdered by a stalker in Ramanathapuram district on Wednesday. The prime reason for the increase in heinous crimes against women and children is the easy access to drugs across Tamil Nadu,” Mr. Nagenthran alleged.

Even as the DMK government had unprecedentedly hiked the property tax, underground drainage tax, drinking water tax, electricity tariff etc., the DMK functionaries were working overtime to make Udhayanidhi Stalin the next Chief Minister, which would never happen, the BJP State president vowed.

When asked about the Centre’s rejection of Tamil Nadu’s appeal for relaxation in paddy moisture content for procurement in the direct procurement centres, he did not give any direct reply saying that the DMK government alone was backstabbing the farmers.
