Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar has placed Sub-Inspector of Police Raj Shekhar under suspension on the charge of misconduct.

Confirming the decision, Mr. Shankar told The Hindu that the action was taken after a photo of Raj Shekhar celebrating his birthday with a history sheeter went viral on social media platform.

Raj Shekhar is attached to the Narayanpur Police Station.

The former MLA Narasimha Naik (Rajugouda), who held a press conference in Yadgir on Monday, expressed a deep concern about law and order in Shorapur taluk stating that a Sub-Inspector was celebrating his birthday with a history sheeter amounting to grave misconduct.

He then demanded that the Superintendent of Police suspend him to ensure law and order is in place.

Mr. Shankar also said that it a departmental inquiry has been ordered into the charge against the suspended officer.
