A 46-year-old farmer was electrocuted at Maradihalli village in Kadur taluk on Monday, after he came in contact with a power line that had fallen on the fence during a storm.

The victim, identified as Hanumanthappa, leased three acres of land belonging to Nagarathnamma of Kaduralli village. On Monday morning, he went to the field to supervise tractor ploughing. While trimming the fence around 7.45 a.m., he came in contact with a live wire that had fallen on the fence the previous evening during heavy rain and a storm.

His son Maruthi and tractor driver Manu pulled him free and rushed him to the government hospital in Kadur, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. He is survived by his wife and son.

Allegation

His wife, Nethravathi, has filed a complaint with the Kadur Police Station, alleging that Ramesh, a cultivator from the neighbouring R.G. Koppalu village, had illegally drawn the power line across the field without obtaining the required permission. She also blamed negligence on the part of Mescom officials for failing to address the snapped line. A case has been registered.
