Vice-President of India C.P. Radhakrishnan said in Coimbatore on Wednesday that it was important that students always promote the integrity and unity of the nation.

“India is today in a position to dictate the terms or give fitting reply to the international forces only because we are united,” said Mr. Radhakrishnan at the Coimbatore International Airport, while declining to comment on the students’ protest in Delhi.

“It is a political question and political leaders will answer it”, he said.

Asserting that students should always be united, Mr. Radhakrishnan urged them to come forward to protect the unity of the nation. “Our voice will resonate at the global level only if the nation stands united,” he said.

On a query on the new government in Tamil Nadu, he told journalists: “You (media) yourself say they are new. Giving time to the new government in Tamil Nadu is everyone’s wish, your wish as well as mine”.
