A 19-year-old student was killed and his friend sustained serious injuries after a speeding truck allegedly rammed the motorcycle they were riding near the NICE Junction at Gottigere on Bannerghatta Road on Monday.
The victim has been identified as Chirag, 19. The injured, Inchara, is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital.
According to the police, the two students of a private college were riding towards Jigani for lunch during their college break when the truck, travelling in the same direction, allegedly knocked down their motorcycle near the junction.
Passers-by rushed the victims to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Chirag dead on arrival.
The truck driver abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled after the accident. The Hulimavu Traffic Police reached the spot, cleared the traffic congestion, and seized the truck.
A case of hit-and-run has been registered, and efforts are under way to trace the absconding driver.
