“Structured approach is needed to tackle both the preliminary and main examinations of Civil Service Exam (CSE), which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Candidates should combine conceptual clarity with the ability to solve questions within a time frame,” advised Seemanth Kumar Singh, Commissioner of Police.
In his keynote address at a meet organised by The Hindu Civil Services Aspirants Club in association with Shankar IAS Academy at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, on Monday, he outlined the strategies required to crack CSE.
“Set your goals and study smart if you aspire to crack the UPSC exam. Also be a thorough strategist, read the syllabus completely, revise consistently, and focus on the basics, particularly National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) text books,” he said.
He cautioned that there is information overload, and often it confuses aspirants as to what they should study and what they can leave out. The real skill lies in choosing what is necessary. “Solving previous question papers is important. The depth of knowledge on why, when, what of the recent developments in national and international levels also matter,” he stated.
“Consistency is the key for preparation,” he said, stressing the importance of mental and physical well-being during the preparation journey. “Maintain a positive approach and stay motivated throughout the process. UPSC is not just about clearing an exam, but about preparing yourself with a sense of purpose and resilience,” Mr. Singh noted.
Premanand, branch head of Shankar IAS academy, said, “The Hindu is the Bible for UPSC aspirants…. It is a holistic process, concentrate on personality from the beginning. Have a critical and optimistic viewpoint. Always have a proper plan. Have a clear insight and be sensitive in analysing issues.”
