A stray dog died when a crude bomb, abandoned by suspected poachers, accidentally exploded after it tried to bite into it on the railway tracks at Kothagudem railway station in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Wednesday.
It was suspected that the bomb, concealed in a cloth bag, was dumped in a dustbin at the railway station by unidentified persons, believed to be poachers in the morning.
Sources said that the stray dog carried the bag to the railway tracks where it tried to bite the crude bomb, resulting in the explosion and its death on the spot.
The local police along with the Government Railway Police examined the incident site and thoroughly checked the adjoining areas. The police have ruled out sabotage.
A case has been registered and an investigation is underway to identify and trace the persons, who dumped the crude bomb in the dustbin.
