Stone laid for road development works worth ₹3.02 crore in Vijayawada

Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Rammohan Naidu on Saturday laid the foundation stone for end-to-end road development works worth ₹3.02 crore in Bharathi Nagar and Guru Nanak Colony, as part of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation’s (VMC) Air Quality Improvement Programme.

The projects, funded under the 15th Finance Commission’s Air Quality Improvement Programme, are aimed at improving urban infrastructure while reducing dust pollution and enhancing the city’s air quality.

The Minister was accompanied by Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, East Assembly constituency MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao, VMC in-charge Commissioner D. Chandrasekhar, civic officials and local leaders.

Mr. Ram Mohan said the Centre was committed to creating high-quality urban infrastructure across the country and that these projects would provide better roads, safer pedestrian facilities and contribute to reducing dust pollution in Vijayawada.

As part of the works, a 650-metre-long, 14-metre-wide hot-mix BT road will be laid in Bharathi Nagar in the 4th Division at an estimated cost of ₹1.10 crore. The project includes the construction of 1.20-metre-wide paver block footpaths on both sides of the road wherever space permits.

Another project involves the construction of a cement concrete road and paver block footpaths along the 690-metre Fun Times Road, connecting Guru Nanak Colony Road with Panta Kaluva Road in the 10th Division, at an estimated cost of ₹1.92 crore.

Mr. Kesineni Sivanath said the Andhra Pradesh government was giving priority to strengthening civic infrastructure by effectively utilising Central funds. He said the projects would improve road quality, sanitation, public safety and overall urban mobility while contributing to cleaner surroundings.

Mr. Gadde Rammohan Rao said officials had been directed to ensure that all works were executed within the stipulated timeframe and in accordance with prescribed quality standards. He said every effort would be made to minimise inconvenience to residents during construction and complete the projects expeditiously.

VMC In-charge Commissioner D. Chandrasekhar said the civic body had adopted a comprehensive strategy to improve Vijayawada’s urban environment through the construction of end-to-end roads, vertical gardens, avenue plantations, greenery along road medians and fountains at major traffic junctions.

Among those present were Chairman of AP State Kummari Salivahana Welfare Development Corporation Eswar, VMC Chief Engineer P. Satyakumari, Superintending Engineers Chandrasekhar and Dushyant, Executive Engineer (In-charge) Rama Rao, Deputy and Assistant Engineers, local public representatives and residents.
