The State will soon have a Minister for Public Grievance Redressal, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said in Belagavi on Thursday.
“My aim is to bring the government to the doorsteps of the people and not to make people visit government offices frequently,” he said at the Belagavi division level review meeting at the Suvarna Soudha.
“We have set up a new Department for Praja Seve, for public grievance redressal. The secretary and other staff members have already been appointed. Their job will be to ensure that general grievances of the people are followed up through every department. They will also follow up on the memorandum received during Jana Samparka meetings in the districts,” he said.
“I appeal to all district in-charge Ministers to hold such meetings in the districts,” he said. They should hold meetings on the first and third Saturday of every month in different taluk towns, he said.
“The Praja Seve Department will frame rules and regulations for the receipt and processing of grievances. All the grievances will be processed within the framework of the law,” he said.
“All officers, from the village accountant to the Deputy Commissioner, should be in their headquarters and address the grievances of the people. All district and taluk level officers should ensure that their subordinate officers do not leave the headquarters without valid reasons or prior permission,” the Chief Minister said.
All Deputy Commissioners and ZP CEOs should regularly inspect all offices in their jurisdiction. They should also check the movement diaries of officers and staff, the Chief Minister added.
