HYDERABAD
Procurement of paddy is progressing briskly in the State with the purchase of over 51.86 lakh tonnes of grain completed till December 10.
It includes 26.37 lakh tonnes of common varieties of paddy and another 25.49 lakh tonnes of fine (sanna) varieties. The value of paddy procured so far is ₹13,661 crore.
According to officials of the Civil Supplies Department, the State government had planned to procure 80 lakh tonnes of paddy produced in the Rabi season and opened 8,433 procurement centres for the purpose. The government has also paid ₹314 crore to farmers as bonus at ₹500 per quintal for raising fine varieties of paddy.
