The Women Safety Wing of the Telangana police launched a State-level Training of Trainers’ programme to strengthen community-led prevention of human trafficking.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with My Choices Foundation, was inaugurated by Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy and Additional DGP Charu Sinha, on Sunday. A “Safe Village” comic book aimed at improving public awareness on the safety of women and children, was also released.
Addressing police officers at the launch, the DGP said that there is a rise in offences such as voyeurism, flashing, groping, cyber exploitation, child sexual abuse, domestic violence, unsafe migration and other human trafficking-related risks, and early community engagement was essential to prevent these emerging threats.
The new curriculum will help officials of field units deliver structured training, strengthen coordination among stakeholders and improve grassroots response through anti-human trafficking units, She Teams and Bharosa centres.
Participants in the programme included AHTU officers, Bharosa teams, SHE Teams, My Choices Foundation staff and representatives of seven district-level implementing partners.
The course covers Safe Village Programme model, designed to help frontline teams engage with vulnerable communities, improve local protection measures and address emerging forms of exploitation.
The Safe Village Programme will initially be introduced in trafficking-prone villages in Warangal, Khammam, Medak, Rachakonda, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Vikarabad and Mahabubabad. Then the initiative will be expanded to more districts, based on monitoring and evaluation findings.
