The State government has ordered the implementation of the ‘Gramanubhava’ programme to give school and college students in urban areas firsthand exposure to rural life, including agriculture, fishing, animal husbandry, art, and culture.
The programme has been implemented for students of classes 8, 9, and 11 studying in government, aided, and unaided schools in urban areas under the jurisdiction of all district headquarters. The programme will initially cover about 2,15,577 students. However, classes 10 and 12 students have been exempted because of the board exams.
As mentioned in the order, students of 160 government institutions, 732 unaided schools having enrolment above 800, and 39 aided schools with 800 and more enrolment will be covered.
The government is implementing the programme headed by Samagra Shikshana Karnataka (SSK) and School Education Department (PU) with the estimated cost of ₹2.46 crore.
The duration of the village stay will be one night and two days. During the stay, students get direct practical exposure to vital rural aspects, including, agriculture and farming, techniques, horticulture, floriculture, rural culture, and tradition. The visit has to be arranged between September and December, from the current year.
The Department of Agriculture will act as a technical partner for the School Education Department in executing the programme. The group of students will be accompanied by five teachers.
