Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday congratulated Maharajan Arumugapandian and Edwina Jason from Tamil Nadu for winning medals at the Asian Youth Games 2025 held in Bahrain.
Weightlifter Maharajan Arumugapandian, who hails from Kovilpatti, won two silver medals in the 60-kg boys category by lifting 114 kg in snatch and 142 kg in clean and jerk. In a social media post, the Chief Minister said Kovilpatti will hereafter be known not only for its sweets and hockey but also for weightlifting. He said the government would extend full support for the athlete’s future endeavours.
Mr. Stalin also congratulated sprinter Edwina Jason, who hails from Tirunelveli, for winning two silver medals, one in the 400-m relay event and another as part of the Indian team in the medley relay.
