In order to tackle crimes against women and minors, Sri Sathya Sai police on Sunday launched a district-wide initiative to monitor offenders and give them counselling, and caution them of strict action for repeat violations.

Speaking to the media, after conducting a counselling session for identified offenders involved in crimes against women, Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar instructed the police personnel in all the sub-divisions to keep close watch on rowdy-sheeters and those booked for harassment, assault and sexual crimes. “Such offenders should be mandatorily summoned to the area police stations every Sunday for counselling sessions, the prime objective of which is to bring behavioural changes in them,” the SP said.

The SP said that on the opening day, counselling sessions were conducted at all sub-divisions and circles. “Offenders were warned against stalking college and school-going girls, harassing women in public places, and indulging in indecent behaviour. Any form of sexual harassment, assault, or violence against women and children will invite stern action,” Mr. Satish Kumar said,

He said that continuous manual and digital surveillance would be in place at educational institutions and public places at all times. “While counselling is just a tool to reform the offenders, law enforcement will adopt zero tolerance towards crimes against women,” he said, directing the police to treat cases of sexual assault, kidnapping, and violence with utmost seriousness and to intensify vigilance across the district.
