The Departments of Transport and Police jointly established a special traffic checkpoint at the Horsley Hills tollgate near Madanapalle in the Annamayya district on Monday (June 22, 2026), as part of an intensive drive to ensure the safety of tourists visiting the popular hill resort.

The initiative was launched to prevent traffic violations on the ghat road and illegal transportation of liquor to the hill station.

District Transport Officer D. Ashok Pratap Rao told the media that the checkpoint has been established to manage the growing tourist footfall, particularly families arriving during weekends and holidays. “The special safety measures are aimed at maintaining a safe, peaceful, and visitor-friendly atmosphere at Horsley Hills without causing inconvenience to tourists,” he said.

As part of the initiative, officials checked vehicles for triple riding, riding without helmets, drunken driving, and transportation of liquor. “Strict action will be initiated against motorists found violating road safety rules or attempting to carry liquor into the tourist destination,” Mr. Ashok Pratap said.

The Police and Transport Department officials jointly conducted the inspections at the tollgate and monitored vehicles entering the ghat road leading to the hill station.

The DTO said that cases had been registered against 16 vehicles during the enforcement drive, and fines amounting to ₹37,800 had been collected from violators. The official appealed to the tourists to cooperate with the checking teams and follow traffic regulations. “We urge tourists to wear helmets, avoid triple riding, and refrain from drunken driving, while also ensuring that their conduct does not inconvenience other families visiting Horsley Hills,” he said.
