Speaker must recognise S.P. Venkateswaran as PMK floor leader: Anbumani

PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday said Speaker M. Appavu should recognise S.P. Venkateswaran as the PMK’s floor leader, Sadasivam as the deputy floor leader, and C. Sivakumar as the party’s Whip in the State Assembly.

In a statement, Dr. Anbumani recalled that Mr. Appavu on Friday said parties with 10% of total number of seats in the Assembly could only be recognised formally with the floor leader and so on, and parties with fewer seats can only be treated as a group.

Parties’ choice

“What he says applies only for the recognition of a party as the main Opposition. In other cases, members are recognised as per their parties’ selection. It is only based on this that parties are invited for all-party meetings. The Speaker shouldn’t change that convention,” Dr. Anbumani said.
