Superintendent of Police A. Mayilvaganan flagged off a free marathon at the old bus terminus, opposite the Fort complex in Vellore, on Sunday as part of the ‘Run Against Drugs’ campaign.

According to a press release, the marathon was jointly organised by Sripuram Sri Narayani Peedam and Sri Narayani Schools. Around 1,500 volunteers including students, teachers, social activists, green club members, and police personnel participated in the event. Led by Mr. Mayilvaganan, participants took a pledge against drugs and other banned substances.

The seven-km run ended at Netaji Stadium, located behind the Vellore Fort complex. Vellore Mayor Sujatha Anandakumar honoured the winners with prizes and certificates in the presence of N. Balaji, director of Sri Narayani Hospital & Research Centre (SNHRC), the release said.
