Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi on Wednesday said that crimes involving narcotics and child marriages would be dealt with an iron hand.
The SP was inspecting the Punganur urban police station. While verifying the files about pending cases, Mr. Dudi said that all the police personnel in the sub-divisions should expedite probes, arrest absconding accused, and ensure early filing of charge-sheets. “The investigation officers should deploy maximum speed and utilise the technology optimally,” he said.
Calling for uncompromising measures against ganja menace, the SP warned that cultivators, transporters, and dealers would face severe action. He instructed that the officials should take up special operations to dismantle ganja smuggling networks. “Most importantly, strict vigil should be maintained on shops located within 100-500 metres of educational institutions. This is a strategic step to protect students from narcotics and unsafe practices,” Mr. Dudi said.
The SP called for tough enforcement against drunken driving and traffic violations, coupled with awareness sessions and booking cases against the defaulters.
Referring to the incidence of child marriages in some pockets of the district, the SP said that this should be eradicated on a priority basis. “Awareness camps in every village vulnerable to the evil practice should be conducted, involving youth and local students. Women police are crucial for this fight against child marriages,” Mr. Dudi said, adding that awareness camps were also needed to sensitise the pubic about cybercrimes, loan app frauds, sexual harassment, and self-defence training.
Circle-Inspector B. Subbarayudu, Special Branch Inspector Suryanarayana, and police officials from Palamaner and Punganur sub-divisions were present.
