South Western Railway (SWR) has recorded a strong performance in freight loading and revenue during November 2025, maintaining its positive growth momentum across major operational areas.

The zone achieved 4.469 million tonnes (MT) of originating freight loading for the month, a significant improvement over the 3.941 million tonnes handled in November last year, marking a growth of 13.4%.

This rise was supported by higher loading across key commodities such as RMSP, pig iron and finished steel, iron ore, fertilizers, containers and other goods.

RMSP witnessed exceptional growth of over 185% with 0.214 million tonnes loaded, while pig iron and finished steel together registered an increase of 28.5%, reaching 0.806 million tonnes.

Coal loading stood at 0.732 million tonnes. Iron ore loading also saw a 6% rise with 1.951 million tonnes handled, fertilizers posted a notable 40.2% growth with 0.129 million tonnes and container traffic increased by 15.3%.

Additionally, other goods recorded a 29.6% increase showcasing the zone’s strengthened freight handling capacity and sustained demand from core industries.

Cumulatively, freight loading up to November 2025 has reached 33.292 million tonnes, significantly higher than the 28.34 million tonnes recorded during the corresponding period of last year.

This marks a notable increase of 4.952 million tonnes, translating to a growth of 17.5%. The rise has been supported by substantial improvements in RMSP, pig iron and finished steel, iron ore, fertilizers and container traffic, underlining the success of the zone’s efforts to attract additional freight and improve operational coordination with various stakeholders.

The zone has also reported strong earnings during November 2025. Passenger revenue stood at ₹297 crore, reflecting a rise of 28.01% over the corresponding month of the previous year.

Freight revenue increased to ₹451.61 crore, marking a growth of 10.55%.

Other coaching revenue amounted to ₹26.67 crore, while sundry revenue stood at ₹15.53 crore. The zone achieved a gross revenue of ₹790.75 crore for the month, registering an overall growth of 15.17%.

The consistent growth in freight loading and earnings reflects South Western Railway’s sustained efforts in enhancing operational efficiency, strengthening customer relations and improving terminal and loading infrastructure.

The zone remains committed to further improving its performance and contributing effectively to the transportation needs of the region, Chief Public Relations Officer, SWR, Manjunath Kanamadi said in a release.
