The Shivamogga district administration has published the draft electoral roll as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with the number of electors reduced by 1,88,554 compared to the previous electoral roll.

Besides this, 48,668 voters will receive notices, to which they must respond with relevant documents.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti said the draft electoral roll had been published and would be available on the notice boards of taluk offices, the Deputy Commissioner’s office, and the website of the Chief Electoral Officer of the Election Commission.

As per the electoral roll that existed before the SIR, Mr. Kavalikatti said the total number of electors in the district was 15,19,459. Of these, 1,88,554 names belonged to those who had died, were absent or untraceable, permanently shifted, or were already enumerated elsewhere.

The list of names was published earlier and shared with political parties as well. “There was not even one application seeking correction in the ASDD list,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

The administration will send notices to 48,668 voters. Of these, 15,164 had filed incomplete or blank enumeration forms, while anomalies were found in 33,504 names. “The notices will be served by post, and electors will be informed to attend a hearing with the respective Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO), along with relevant documents. They will get sufficient time to respond,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

To handle the notices, the Election Commission has designated 277 AEROs. These officers will hold hearings at the ward level in urban areas and at the gram panchayat level in rural areas. Each AERO will handle between 90 and 284 notices over the next two months.

“The final list will be announced on October 27,” he added.
