Kozhikode

Candidates of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) won eight of the 10 general seats in the students’ union of the Government Medical College (GMC), Kozhikode, when the election results were declared on Saturday evening. The SFI victory comes after a gap of 23 years.

Independents, a collective of students not aligned with any major political party, had been winning the college union election there since 2003. This time, Independents managed to win only two of the general seats: Nayan Menon (chairperson) and Nidha Rasheed (lady vice-chairperson). The victorious SFI candidates are Benjamin Thomas (vice-chairperson), Mohammed Salim (general secretary), E.S. Anaya (joint secretary), M.S. Sreelakshmi (arts secretary), N. Ansaf Yaseen (sports secretary), A.R. Sarath (magazine editor), C. Yadukrishnan (university union councillor-UG), K.T. Sumayya Begum (UUC-PG), and P.V. Yaswanth (PG representative).
