Seven women workers of a garments factory were injured, two of them grievously, when the auto in which they were travelling was knocked down by a speeding lorry at Kollakunta village of HIndupur rural mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district on Thursday late night (September 11, 2025).

According to the police, the auto was carrying the victims towards a factory near Penukonda when the accident occurred. Hit by the lorry, the auto swerved to the right and rammed into the divider before halting. After the incident, the lorry driver hit another motorcycle, which was dragged a few km. The onlookers, several of them working in the subsidiary units of the Kia factory, chased the lorry and intercepted the vehicle. The police rushed to the spot and detained the lorry driver.

Of the injured women, five were treated as outpatients at the Government Hospital in Hindupur, and two of them were admitted to the emergency department. The police registered a case and took up further investigation.
